Earth Hour was an event I haven’t played for in a few years, but it was great when St.James Gate asked me to do their earth hour event show. A great global cause where the “world” turns off their lights for 1 hour, to save energy and preserve the Earth to its original core – in the modern world,
it’s a candle light affair filled with a “community” sense that we are all in this together. Positioned on a stage, I gave a mini speech to the crowd infront of me, announcing the lights were turning off, and that w were part of something special. As the lights dimmed at 8:30pm I performed a special organic (no transfat) setlist and physically left the stage (during the 2nd song Space Oddity) to serenade the crowd. Walking in
the dark, singing while playing guitar, around waiters/waitresses, it was a ‘surreal’ experience that made me feel I was sleep walking to the fridge to get a glass of milk at 3am on a Wednesday.

St Paddy’s day in Toronto has always been a great show to play – especially at the famous Bloor/Bathurst pub Paupers.
This years show was broken into 2 shows – the 1st half focused on traditional Irish songs, the 2nd half focussed on modern style Celtic songs. It was a very successful show with so many stellar compliments from so many age demographics.
Positioned above the entrance of the pub, I recieved great feedback as people walked inside. The best compliments came from people who said “wow I never knew a brown guy could play Irish songs”.
To be frank, anyone can play Irish songs, a lot of the traditional ones are 3 chords – G,C,D , but it’s the passion and phrasing of lyrics that’s needed to truly make it epic, meaningful and honest.

15 FebIn the dead of a Canadian winter, I found myself at a great pub in Mid Town Toronto – The Jester on Yonge.
It was here I teamed up with the award winning Craft Brewer – Cameron’s for an ‘Anti Valentines Day Show’.
As the snow blew outside, I blew inside a selection of songs to make lonely people feel better, while Cameron’s distributed their great brew to all that came. To be honest, no one was lonely (and if they were, they did a great job hiding it). As the snow fell outside, it was a cozy reminder that the acoustic guitar is made of wood, and that wood can burn when your cold.
There is nothing better than being in a cozy environment, playing songs about tortured souls and love (with a smile).
