Screen shot 2015-05-05 at 12.00.50 AMThis Spring has pretty much been a sandwich of gigs from a combination of all the places I played at. It was a great non-stop vibe, almost like being on a tour of the greater Toronto area playing shows in Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, Milton, Etobicoke daily (and throw in a resort gig in Orlando Florida USA somewhere in between). And at

It was awesome, and slightly exausting like running a 20k marathon. The best nights were ones where people would sing right into your face (out of key of course), or when waitress would do sign language to translate the lyrics to an audience. I was truly amused (can’t you tell by my serious face?).

I’m so lucky for the gigs I get, and especially on a day like St.Patricks Day, it’s such great day to play a show for live music fans. This year I had the opportunity to play Toronto’s Pauper’s Bar on Bathurst/Bloor. I had the prime-time slot from 5-8:30pm, and it was such great fun playing traditional Irish songs, and watching the crowd sway, clap, stare, and dance (as well as just give me eyes of approval). Screen shot 2015-05-04 at 11.48.20 PMBy 7pm the place was rammed with such a diverse crowd, Screen shot 2015-05-04 at 11.59.38 PMyoung, old, infants, saints, criminals, etc, it was hard to pinpoint what age the bar caters to. In the end I managed to just be the human ipod I am.

Memo to all traveling musicians; Check the Weather Channel before heading out on the roads. In the midst of snow storms, traffic delays, sub zero temperatures, and frozen equipment (and hands), I find myself gigging weekly in the dead of winter at warm pubs across the GTA. IMG_2929The hangover of the holidays no more, the new year began with a series of shows that continued to warm millenials, baby boomers, and generation x’ers by the fireplace. FullSizeRenderI’ve yet to perform in a library, but the closest I got too it was this place – An indisclosed venue, the books surrounding were huge, and the spotlights – green.
