A Hard Day’s GPS Night – Double Gigs

10 Sep

screen-shot-2016-10-17-at-9-25-03-pmTo me, the true test of any performer is to see if you can do mulitple gigs in 1 day –  in different locations. When i was a kid, in 1985 I saw on TV Phil Collins perform (the song ‘Against All Odds’) in London UK, then hop onto a plane and perform (Yes the same song ‘Against All Odds’) in Philadelphia USA. All within 15hrs. In 1985 (ok, today, it would be faster).2

In the 1960’s Bealtes would do 2-3 shows a day – afternoon, evening, night in different cities and performers like Sinatra and Elvis in the 70’s would do afternoon, evening, and midnight shows.

3In the early 1990’s U2 would do a show in Italy, fly back to Dublin Ireland, work on their album Zooropa, sleep on a plane and do a show the next day in Germany. How they got through this lifestyle was – uhh, i have not idea (i don’t think they had RedBull in the 1960’s), but its kinda the ‘performer’ code to do double shows when your in demand.

I myself am ‘in demand’ right now – being thrusted into ‘multiple gig territory’. The current record for me was 4 shows in 2 days. – Thursday Kelseys Burloak, 6:30pm – 9:30pm to Madison 10:30pm – 1:30am, and  Friday – Davisville Fionn MacCools – 7:30pm to  10pm and back to again the Madison 10:30pm – 1:30am.

Here’s a map of my driving routes over the last month.

#2016 best summer ever (..and it’s not over yet)

The months of June and July (and now August) have been some of the most exciting and successful shows to date.
My 2016 ‘summer tour’ started in front of 500+ people at the Cooperators Ribfest in Oakville, then to a wonderful Canada Day celebration in Mississauga, to a Cameron’s Brewery summer soirée at Torontos Rhino, to the JW Marriott Lake Rosseau under the summer stars.
In between these shows was many other shows at Toronto’s Madison, Etobicokes St James Gate, Miltons Ned Devines, and Various Fionn Macools around the GTA…and in between of those were a bunch of summer house parties celebrating the hottest summer with my song selections. (Yes I’m a bit tired now)
Thanks to everyone who listened to whatever I played, screamed, laughed, smiled, frowned, bounced their head (or other body parts) or stuck smartphones in my face (like TMZ). See you somewhere in the GTA in the future (meaning next week hopefully)
Sincerely

Summer Weekends @ Tranquil Glen Abbey Golf Club

10 Jun

Screen Shot 2016-06-10 at 7.21.12 AMAfter a long ‘eighteen’ holes on the green, members of Oakville’s Glen Abbey Golf Course were treated not only with a 5 course meal, but a 5 course setlist (from me) of hit songs from the 1950’s Screen Shot 2016-06-10 at 7.41.48 AMto around 2010 (The appetizer is ‘Sitting at the dock of the Bay’, the salad is “Hotel California”, the main course is “Mrs Robinson” with a side of “Free Falling”, with a dessert of Beatles “Ticket to Ride” and Elton Johns “Tiny Dancer” (with a 50 more songs in between). By dessert, I was taking song requests via “Human iPod” styles , which made it a sweet hole-in-one ‘musically’ speaking.
